An architect’s portfolio should showcase their work. Pretty simple. The real brass is in subtly mirroring their design aesthetic in the framework and using it to accentuate the artistry.

2015 – ongoing

Mike Vail’s design agenda, largely derived from his experiences in yacht design and sailing and his love of the bush, has generated a sensitivity to the elemental conditions of site and to the aesthetic qualities of a landscape with respect to the fabric and form of each building.

With its combination of a simple menu structure and large-format images, plentiful slideshows and galleries throughout, Mike’s website offers a great balance between usability and visual impact. To ensure Mike’s design aesthetic remained the hero the site uses an even block structure to sequence examples of each work, which lets each design feel equal in merit and more part of a system of architectural services rather than a business focusing on just one specialty.
